Waking Sleeping Beauty

One afternoon we watched the Waking Sleeping Beauty documentary which is a film I went back and rewatched a few times (especially after Disney plus was released) because I found it so interesting. The documentary focused on the time that Disney was struggling during the late 1980s after many box office failures and lack of interest in animated films. Then it explores how disney came back with many successes such as Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Lion King.

What interested me most about the documentary was the personaliy of the animators that was displayed. It talked about the famous “Rats Nest” who were a group of animators who rebelled against the philosophies and ideologies left behind from the “9 Old Men”, and it was that rebellious nature which brought Disney back into the modern era.
