Storyboarding

I installed Storyboard pro to practice and get good at storyboarding before I make my storyboard for my Through the Door story. I watched quite a few tutorials and did the retro boarding exercise which was to reverse engineer a scene from the Incredibles. This is the board that I created.

Doing this exercise taught me a lot such as layer management in storyboards, background duplication to ease workflow, and a good tool to colour in behind the line art. Mainly it’s taught me the importance of thumbnail sketches and how unnecessary detail is not wise to include in a storyboard as it can be a waste of time. This was really good practice for drawing characters from different views in a variety of different shots. I found it really surprising just how many different shots were used in this small sequence, and it’s interesting how each shot has a storytelling purpose.
