Shot types

When I was storyboarding I did some research into different types of shots to learn how to use them in my story.

Extreme long shots are good for establishing the scene

Long shots are good for establishing both the character and the scene

Medium shots focus mainly on characters’ performance

Over the shoulder shots are good for inter-cutting a conversation between two characters as long as the 180 rule is practised

Extreme close up can be very unnerving for the viewer as we are unnaturally close to a character

Dutch angles are good for making the character seem disorientated or confused
